Shamarikh Mobile Clinic has made a great impact in limiting the spread of cases in the COVID pandemic, as well as other infectious diseases. There has also been a reduction in the percentage of congenital disabilities by providing prenatal care and by treating malnutrition in children, pregnant, and lactating women.
One of Shamarkh Mobile Clinic’s success stories is that of Aya. At ten years old, she did not attend school, but would often play in front of the center. The team noticed her and asked her why she was always outside and not going to school, but she wasn’t able to hear them or speak. The team reached out to Aya’s mother. Her mother communicated that she had been exposed to high temperatures, causing her to lose her hearing and speaking ability.
One of SRD’s ear specialists conducted an examination and found that she had sensorineural hearing loss. The specialist installed in-ear-canal headphones. Aya is consequently able to hear and is now learning to speak a few words. She has returned to her normal life and is registered in school.
