Through shelter programs, SRD works to repair homes and/or collective shelters to facilitate safe housing and a return to normalcy. The following components within shelter programming ensure objectives are achieved:

• Assessments—Comprehensive assessments are conducted prior to, during, and following Shelter repairs. These assessments determine the level(s) of damage for each home/collective space based on pre-identified criteria.
• Categorizations—Spaces are categorized as mild, moderate, or severely damaged. The categorization will dictate the type of repair carried out.

Specific repairs for each space are made in accordance with the full assessment on a case-by-case basis.

• Repairs Conducted—Includes the conversion of dirt floors to concrete/cement; repair of plumbing/piping of spaces with damaged bathrooms; installation of electrical wiring for solar panel installation; latrine installation to homes without a functional bathroom; replacement of damaged or destroyed doors and addition of locks; replacement of broken windows; repair of damaged walls and replacement of destroyed walls; repair or replacement of ceilings according to level of damage
• Technical Expertise—Creation of livelihood opportunities and utilization of technical experts in Syria including engineers, electricians, carpenters, construction workers, and plumbers.
