Emergency and Referral Program
Providing emergency transport through a network of ambulances and trained paramedics ensures that patients can rapidly reach facilities. Referral services provide link facilities that can receive such emergency patients and transport any cold cases who lack access to transportation.
SRD successfully operated the referral system expanded to include total of 165 healthcare facilities (HFs), surpassing the initial target of 150 HFs. This significant increase was driven by the heightened demand for healthcare services following the earthquake, underscoring the crucial role and necessity of the referral system.
The primary objective of the project was to establish an emergency patient transportation system using 24 ambulances, distributed across the areas of north Aleppo (11 ambulances), Afrin district (7 ambulances), and the Idleb region (6 ambulances). Each ambulance shift, staffed by a driver and paramedic, operates for 8 hours a day. To ensure smooth operations, SRD covered the running costs for 24 ambulances and closely monitored their activities through the referral desk and referral team.
