Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH)

Provision of the following services including the Minimum Initial Service Package (MISP) through the 6 objectives, including:

  1. Ensure the health sector/cluster identifies an organization to lead the implementation of the MISP.
  2. Prevent sexual violence and respond to the needs of survivors, including the provision of the Clinical Management of Rape (CMR).
  3. Prevent the transmission of and reduce morbidity and mortality due to HIV and other STIs.
  4. Prevent excess maternal and newborn morbidity and mortality, including the provision of emergency obstetric and newborn care (EmONC), including basic and comprehensive services (e.g., BEmONC and CEmONC), and ensuring referral pathways between these services. The 9 services of EmONC facilities include the management and delivery of care to prevent complications during pregnancy, post-abortive care, normal deliveries, blood transfusions, and Cesarean sections (C-sections).
  5. Prevent unintended pregnancies (family planning). SRD takes a three-pronged approach to building the capacity of service providers, raising awareness of communities, and facilitating the provision of family planning methods.
  6. Plan for comprehensive SRH services integrated into primary health care as soon as possible. Work with the health sector/cluster partners to address the six health building blocks of service delivery, health workforce, health information system, medical commodities, financing, and governance and leadership.

Comprehensive SRH Services include the provision of intrapartum and postpartum care with a focus on care for mother and child prior to, during, and after the pregnancy period. Essential services within antenatal care (ANC) include routine/regular check-ups to ensure a safe labor/delivery and ultimately prevent maternal and infant deaths, in addition to prevention of miscarriage, birth defects, low birth weight, and infections. Postnatal or postpartum care (PNC) places a focus on the first 24 hours to 6 weeks following delivery. A tremendous focus is also placed on the quality of services and care along with the application of SRH protocols.
