Community-Based Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM)
SRD’s Community-Based Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM) program is dedicated to tackling the urgent issue of malnutrition among children in Syria. Designed as a community-centered approach, CMAM integrates critical health and nutrition services to identify, treat, and prevent severe acute malnutrition, especially in areas where food insecurity is high and access to nutritious food is limited. SRD’s CMAM program prioritizes early intervention through proactive screening at the community level, enabling prompt identification of at-risk children who can then receive immediate support and treatment.
For severe cases, children are referred to Primary Health Care (PHC) and Reproductive Health (RH) facilities, where they receive intensive treatment in specialized nutrition centers. Our approach emphasizes both curative and preventive measures, combining therapeutic feeding with education on nutrition and dietary practices to promote lasting health benefits. SRD is committed to expanding CMAM services to reach more communities affected by Syria’s ongoing food crisis, collaborating with local partners to ensure sustainable access to essential nutrition. Through these efforts, SRD not only addresses acute malnutrition but also fosters resilience within communities by empowering families with the knowledge and resources needed for long-term child health and development.
